Dr. Richard L. Byrd
It is easy to find Dr. Byrd in our practice because he is always wearing the biggest smile! Dr. Byrd is a certified Orthodontic specialist. He followed his four-year Doctorate from Howard University with a three-year orthodontic residency. Dr. Byrd has continuing education in orthodontics. He can offer advanced treatment options which could shorten treatment time. He provides the highest standard of care using his skilled training in the latest advances in dental technology. He is the father of three so he understands the importance of taking a gentle approach to treatment while remaining focused on good hygiene for a lifetime. Dr. Byrd cares about giving each patient a healthy, beautiful smile!
Dr. Byrd is the past president of the Virginia Orthodontic Association, a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Orthodontic Association, American Dental Association, active member of Peter B. Ramsey Dental Society, the Virginia Dental Association, and is an active member of the Orthodontic Study Club of Richmond. He is married and enjoys spending time with his family. Outside of work, he has strong church and community ties and loves sports cars and keeping fit. You may just spot him in the local gym! One final fun fact about Dr. Byrd: Dr. Byrd loves pancakes!
Dr. Lindsey North
Dr. Lindsey North is a board certified pediatric dentist who grew up in Manassas, Virginia. She earned her B.S. in Biology from The College of William and Mary and graduated with her D. D. S. from the Virginia Commonwealth School of Dentistry. She earned her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago. While earning her certificate in pediatric dentistry, she also completed a Master’s degree in Oral Sciences. For her thesis research, she explored the use of natural dental restorative materials in primary teeth. Dr. North specializes in making sure her patients feel calm and comfortable for dental procedures. She wants every child to have a fun experience when they visit the dentist. Her gentle, patient and friendly personality quickly puts children and parents at ease. She loves exchanging silly jokes, building relationships with her patients and is committed to providing excellent dental care and customer service. One of the aspects of pediatric dentistry she appreciates most is the emphasis on prevention. She knows it is important to take time to talk with parents and patients to identify likely causes for cavities and when needed, to take the necessary time to discuss plans to decrease the incidence of cavities. Dr. North knows she is an important part of a child’s health team and she collaborates with pediatricians, other physicians and other dental specialists to ensure her patients understand the options to achieve the best possible outcome. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Virginia Dental Association, Virginia Society of Pediatric Dentistry, Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, Richmond Dental Society, and American Dental Association.
Dr. North lives in Richmond with her five year-old blind Boston terrier, Jackson. In her spare time, she running marathons and local races (she has done ~12 marathons) and volunteering with the SPCA exercising high-energy dogs up for adoption. She also enjoys hiking, spending time with friends and family, traveling and trying new restaurants. She loves hockey and her favorite sports team is the Washington Capitals. Don't be surprised if you spot her out and about with a double. Dr. North has a twin sister!
Dr. Gavin-Rae Donaldson
Dr. Gavin-Rae Donaldson grew up in South Florida and received his Bachelor of Health Science at the University of Miami and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Meharry Medical College in Nashville. Upon graduation, he was accepted into a two-year competitive Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Orthopedics program at Howard University. As an experienced orthodontic specialist, he accepted a move to the Richmond area as an associate of Dr. Richard Byrd.
Dr. Donaldson strives to create lasting relationships with each and every patient, starting with the creation of a beautiful and healthy smile. He understands the importance of aligning teeth to help build overall confidence and self-esteem as well as the contribution of straight teeth to good oral and overall health. Dr. Donaldson is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association and American Mensa. In his free time he enjoys singing, traveling, working out, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Heather Ballentine
Dr. Heather Ballentine is originally from California. In 2006 she received her Bachelor of Science from the University of California Los Angeles. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of the Pacific in San Francisco, CA in 2010. At dental school she was instrumental in her school’s community outreach programs and was awarded a Community Service Award. She graduated a member of the Tau Kappa Omega Honor Society.
She next attended a residency in Dental Anesthesia at Jacobi Medical Center. This Level I Trauma Center residency provides training in anesthesia of pediatric, adult and special needs patients. She was appointed as Chief Resident for the Department of Anesthesiology in her final year.
